The Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly interested in trading for Chicago Bulls guard Coby White.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times’ Joe Cowley on Thursday, Minnesota asked about the Bulls’ asking price for White, who is on an expiring $12.9 million contract, per Spotrac. Cowley said the Timberwolves are looking to make a trade soon to fix their ball-handling issues.
Thanks for the submission!
“According to a source, Coby White has been inquired about, and time is of the essence in the Bulls making a decision,” Cowley wrote. “The source said that Minnesota is not looking to wait until February and the trade deadline to get a deal done, looking to fix the primary ball-handling situation that’s been an issue all season long for them.”

Minnesota is eyeing an upgrade at point guard to pair with three-time NBA All-Star Anthony Edwards. Donte DiVincenzo has been the team’s starting point guard this season after veteran Mike Conley moved to the bench. There were also rumors that the team recently inquired about disgruntled Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant.
The Bulls are 9-14 and are in the midst of a seven-game losing streak. There were speculations in recent weeks that Chicago’s front office might elect to blow the roster up. However, per Cowley, Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas is not ready to pull the plug yet.
White began the season with a calf injury but is averaging 22.1 points and 5.4 assists on 43.1% shooting in seven games.
NBA insider proposes a framework for a Coby White trade to the Timberwolves
In the same article on Thursday, NBA insider Joe Cowley said that making the salaries match in a potential Coby White trade would be easy. The Minnesota Timberwolves could offer Donte DiVincenzo, who earns $11.9 million this season, and guard Terrence Shannon Jr. They could also add future draft picks to sweeten the deal.
A trade would also make sense for the Chicago Bulls, as they will not lose White for nothing. The 6-foot-4 guard will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Per Cowley, White turned down an extension to bet on himself in free agency.
In the proposed framework, the Bulls will land assets for a likely rebuild. White, meanwhile, provides Minnesota with a reliable scorer and the playmaker they need. With back-to-back Western Conference finals appearances, the Timberwolves face high expectations this season.
