Arsenal could make a surprise move for Real Madrid wonderkid Victor Valdepenas at the end of the campaign, according to ESPN Deportes.

The Gunners bolstered their central defensive department with the signings of Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie in the last transfer window.

Hincapie was signed on a temporary basis from Bayer Leverkusen on deadline day, but the Gunners have an obligation to purchase him.

Despite this, they are aiming to add more quality in the department and it is claimed that the club are closely monitoring the progress of Valdepenas.

The same outlet claim that the 19-year-old prefers to continue with Madrid, but could move on if he does not have the guarantee of playing time.

Valdepenas is also on the radar of Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen and there could be a bidding battle for his signature.

The youngster can also operate as a left-back. He made his debut in the position for Madrid against Alaves during the recent weekend.
