Just one day after the double signing of Wales captains, Gloucester have now confirmed one Wales international will leave the club
Wales scrum-half Tomos Williams will leave Gloucester at the end of the current season.
Just a day after the Gallagher Prem club confirmed they had signed Wales captains Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake from the Ospreys, the Kingsholm outfit have now confirmed the loss of their club captain. The 30-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Saracens.
Williams quickly became a fan favourite at Gloucester since joining from Cardiff in 2024.
In his first season at the club, he was named the Gallagher Prem’s player of the season.
He was then named club captain ahead of this season, as the Cherry and Whites tried hard to keep hold of the scrum-half as his stock continued to rise.
Williams, along with back-row Morgan, was just one of two Welshman named in the British and Irish Lions squad to tour Australia this summer.
Unfortunately, injury ruled him out of the Test series.
“Tomos Williams will depart Gloucester Rugby at the end of the 2025/26 season,” read Gloucester’s statement.
“The scrum-half, who arrived at Kingsholm in the summer of 2024, made an immediate impact in Cherry & White, winning the Gallagher Player of the Season Award in his inaugural Gallagher PREM season.
“After impressing at Kingsholm, Williams was offered a new deal to stay at the Club beyond the end of the season, but has instead opted to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.
“The Welshman will depart with the best wishes of everyone at the Club when the time comes, but in the meantime, is entirely dedicated to ending his time at Gloucester Rugby on a high.”
The news comes just 24 hours after Gloucester had announced the signings of Morgan and Lake from the Ospreys.
Both had been heavily linked with moves away from Wales, given the ongoing uncertainty in Welsh rugby at the minute.
Morgan, like Williams, had been linked with a move to Saracens – but ultimately chose to join close friend Lake at Kingsholm.
