John Cena shared a huge revelation ahead of his retirement this coming December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Cena has been making appearances to promote his final match against Gunther in Washington, D.C.

The GOAT opened up about trying to survive his early years on the main roster before accidentally creating the “Doctor of Thuganomics” character amid the possibility of him getting released.
Thanks for the submission!
John Cena added that he wasn’t popular with some of the boys backstage because he was leaning into his character by not following the dress code. His freestyle lyrics also rubbed a few in the wrong way, but he admitted that he had no choice because he was just trying to keep his job.
“In doing that, I never followed dress code. I was saying disrespectful sh*t about my peers. Like, I kind of did it my own way. So I was kind of ruffling some feathers backstage or just I was taking big swings cause I was going to f**king get fired anyway. The alternative was lose my job. So I was like, ‘F**k it. I’m going down swinging.’ And then the people behind the curtain were like, ‘Ah, the kid’s disrespectful to the business. He doesn’t care about the business.’ All the while, I just want to keep my f*cking job, you know? So the theys behind the curtain weren’t really invested, but they were also humble enough to be like, ‘There’s noise out there. Got to give them another match and one match at a time,'” Cena said.
John Cena added that Vince McMahon hated the “Doctor of Thuganomics” gimmick initially before eventually loving it. Cena was also thankful that McMahon avoided putting his own spin on the character and let him find his groove, which turned out to be a fantastic decision.
John Cena comments on if Vince McMahon could return to WWE
In the same interview with Joe Rogan, John Cena tackled some uncomfortable topics like his apology to China and Vince McMahon’s scandal. Cena commented on the chances of McMahon returning to WWE.
“In my eyes, I’d like to think that time heals everything. I believe in forgiveness, and I also believe in looking in the body of work. I also notice that there are also a lot of fragile stuff going on in there. I don’t know, man. I don’t know,” Cena said.
Cena’s final appearance as an active in-ring performer will be this Saturday at the Capital One Arena.
