Joe Burrow has had a frustrating 2025 campaign so far with the Cincinnati Bengals. He suffered a turf toe injury during their 31-27 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2. This sidelined him for nine games before returning during their Thanksgiving victory over the Ravens.
However, the Bengals went on to lose the next two games, eliminating them from the playoff race. There is an air of uncertainty regarding Joe Burrow’s future with the Bengals after the comments he made, stating that he doesn’t see the point of playing the game if he’s not having fun on the field.

“He definitely has some blame. But the reality of it is, when you’re a player and when you’ve experienced the success, overall career success. … the expectation becomes, ‘I’ve changed the culture here. … We’re gonna be winning because of me.’ That hasn’t happened. And hen you start to add on all these injuries.

“That takes a mental toll and task, it weighs on you. … That fact that he’s not winning. I don’t think people understand this until you kind of put it into your own world, it’s the antidote. it’s the medicine that literally allows you to cope with whatever’s going on. If they were winning right now, he wouldn’t be sitting with this disposition of disgust. But because of all the injuries, because of the lack of winning, it weighs on you.”
So far in five games, Joe Burrow has tallied 959 yards and eight TDs passing. This is the third consecutive year that the Bengals will not be participating in the playoffs.
Retired Super Bowl star calls out Joe Burrow for disappointing Week 15 performance against the Ravens
On Sunday, the Bengals suffered a 24-0 loss at the hands of the Ravens. Joe Burrow completed 25 of 39 passes for 225 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.
After the game, ex-Super Bowl champion Chris Canty criticized the quarterback for his lackluster performance.
“He looked like somebody who was disinterested in being out there,” Canty said on Monday on “Unsportsmanlike.” “I”m not trying to be disrespectful to Joe Burrow, cause I think he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league when he’s right. But clearly, he’s not.
“So when you have yesterday’s peformance be prefaced by the comments that he made last week, you stat to question whether or not the player has that passion that’s requisite to go out there and play in the NFL, especially at that position, because quarterback is a leadership spot by nature.”
The Bengals are third in the AFC North with a 4-10 record. They next face the Dolphins on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
