Scorecard

New Zealand’s Tom Latham and Devon Conway became the first openers in Test cricket to score centuries in both innings as the Kiwis set the West Indies a record 462-run chase for victory.

Latham scored 137 and 101 in the third and final Test of the series, while Conway added to his 227 in the first innings with a 100 in the second.

The pair had put on 323 in the first innings and combined for 515 runs overall, which is a record for an opening pair’s total in a Test match.

Conway also became just the 10th batter in Test history to score a double hundred and a hundred in the same match.

He followed Greg Chappell, Sunil Gavaskar, Shubman Gill, Graham Gooch, Marnus Labuschagne, Brian Lara, Lawrence Rowe, Kumar Sangakkara and Doug Walters in achieving that feat.

The Windies had been bowled out for 420 – a deficit of 155 – earlier on during day four before Latham and Conway again took to the crease.

New Zealand’s opening batsmen, along with Kane Williamson (40) and Rachin Ravindra (46), helped their side to 306-2 before they declared to leave the visitors needing 462 to win the match and level the series.

The West Indies openers reached 43-0 at the close, with John Campbell digging in to score two from 50 balls as Brandon King made 37.
